Air freight costs more per kilogram, but that is only half the comparison. Sea freight ties up working capital for the length of the transit, adds port storage risk, and often needs a larger safety stock at the other end. When you put inventory carrying cost next to the freight difference, the break-even moves — and for high-value, low-weight cargo it can move a long way.
